So you’re in the middle of a project when you realize you’re not quite sure where you’ve been or whether or not you’ve hit your milestones to keep the project on track. Managing IT projects can be a difficult task on a good day, and even the best project management plans can become derailed without a clear roadmap to help you see them through.

Defining project milestones at the beginning of a project can help set realistic expectations for your key stakeholders with reasonable estimated delivery timelines.

A good project milestone report is developed and distributed only after the project plan has been set, but prior to the project kick-off meeting. Using a project milestone report template will help you cover all the bases and give you one central place to store critical project management information. You should also include a copy of the project plan if you can, to keep management and/or project sponsors informed.
